As we commence the second year of publication of the electronic version of CRA Magazine, I would like to thank our readers for their enthusiastic support and feedback. I am pleased to say that the switch from print to on-line publication has been well-received by our readers who are able to conveniently access the current version as well as past issues of the magazine wherever they are by visiting www.cramagazine.com. We have also been able to expand our reach by increasing our electronic mailing list and better servicing our readers who may be on the move due to work and other commitments.
In this issue of CRA Magazine, Wayne Bewick looks at the tax implications of relocating employees to the US and suggests that they should be considered well in advance of initiating any transfers. Dean Bellefleur, who returned to Canada after 15 years abroad shares the experiences of he and his family, and discovers that things are a whole lot different in his homeland, amounting to what he describes as “culture shock”. Dwarka Lakhan reviews the emergence of Panama as one the hottest offshore jurisdictions in Central and Latin America and the Caribbean.
Louisa Nedkov tells you how to dine like a diplomat while Nobel laureate and leading economist Robert A. Mundell discusses the international monetary system and the impact of currencies on the world economy in an interview with the editors of the Journal of Financial Transformation.
We also take a brief look at some pertinent issues that emerged from the 2007 Federal Budget, which might be of interest to Canadians living abroad. In the next issue of the magazine we plan to take a more indepth look at some of these issues.
As always, we welcome your suggestions on topics that interest you and your feedback on the stories that we publish. We would also like to invite you contribute your own stories on topics that might be of interest to fellow expatriates. We sincerely hope that you enjoy this issue of the CRA magazine. Should you wish to contact us please send an email to info@cramagazine.com.
